This camera is compact and lightweight. It takes good photo's in daylight. However a word of warning: It is absolutely useless when the flash is in use. Even though the camera can be set to prevent red-eye, it just does not work. The result of taking a picture of someone with blue or green eyes is a photo of a demon with red eyes. Some other low cost brands have the same problem, but considering the price and market position of Canon I am disappointed.

Even Adobe photoshop has problems correcting the pictures. This is a delightful camera to have.

It delivers High quality images and the auto-focus is really useful. It doesn't have the plastic feeling with some cameras, and looks pretty cool.

I had to buy a 512MB Memory card because the one it comes with doesnt take that many super fine photos. The only bad thing about it, is the A/V Out Digital socket, which is poorly designed. I think it would break off one day. Nevertheless, I've given this camera 5 Stars as it is value for money, and gives you top quality images, and it's easy to use.

I'm a good amateur photographer with many years experience and use digital SLR cameras for work and pleasure, I needed a small pocked sized camera for out and about shots when you just can't lug all the gear about. The Ixus 50 is perfect - how often can you say that about a product? It is beautifully made from metal that has a high quality finish (it's stunning actually). The camera is so small it's hard to believe it can take very decent 5mp shots - and it does, change the settings to super fine and you'll be rewarded. The detail is impressive from such a camera, very little (if any) chromatic aberration and fringing too. It's fast to start up, easy to use, and perfect for users who don't understand the various camera settings.

My only gripes are: Canon bundling a 16Mb SD memory card with this camera is hopeless, buy a large additional SD card when you purchase this, testing an SanDisk Ultra II 512Mb at present. Also the lack of even a small slip case is an oversight by Canon. You must buy a case as this little camera will get scratched in no time.

However the camera is such a good solution I can't give it anything less than 5 stars. The price on Amazon and the fast delivery beat all other on-line retailers. This comes highly recommended. I have been using a Casio QV4000 4Mb that has taken some nice photo's, but have been looking for a good quality camera that I could carry in my pocket, my short list was the Casio S500 or the Canon IXUS 50.

After examining both cameras I decided that the Canon although slightly thicker would be suitable. I purchased the camera from Amazon that was offering a very good price.

The camera was delivered in a couple of days using a secure delivery service with tracking facilities. The camera was well packaged, with software and with the user manual just in English. The camera has that nice weighty feel of a quality item and for me the important where made label 'made in Japan' with a serial no. Of the camera. Charging of the supplied battery took about 90m with the supplied charger. The photo's that I have taken using Auto mode using best quality have been very good, with a size of 2-3 Mb.

The 2' LCD is very clear and adjustable for brightness, the camera also has a optical view finder. I am using a Bytestor 512Mb Hi-Speed SD card with the camera and that will give about 200 photos on best quality.

The camera does have a manual mode but that does not include speed or aperture priority, the film speed can be changed up to ISO 400. This is a camera that you will want with you all the time, but you will need the larger memory card and a case, a spare battery would be desirable. I got this over the ixus 700 since this was smaller and I thought the 5mp quality would be enough, but I admit wondering whether it was a compromise of image quality and battery life for size at the time. Even when it arrived I was surprised with just how small it was. It is amazing in this respect, especially if style is important to you. Image quality: I find 5mp more than enough in terms of pixels. Image quality is good, and given the size of the camera is impressive. Red eye is evident occasionally, but this may be an issue for many ultra compact digital cameras. Supplied software allows photo editing of this if desired.

The flash seems fine. As a snapshot camera I am extremely pleased. Battery life is possibly the weakest aspect of the camera I can find, although not bad. I bought an extra battery with mine, which I would still recommend. I like the fact this ultra compact camera still has a view finder, so the LCD display can be used sparingly if battery life must be preserved. In this case the manual claims approx 400 photos can be taken on one battery. Unfortunately a low battery life indicator is only displayed a few minutes before the battery runs out.

Menus are very easy to use. I purchased a high speed memory card, and whether this makes a difference when saving photos/viewing I am not sure. Start up time is very quick, and when taking photos I have not noticed shutter lag at all. Quick easy operation is a great part of this camera. Other points? No case included.

Software is included, as are cables to link the camera directly to pc or tv to view photos, and a battery charger. Would recommend getting a high speed high capacity memory card, as even with a 1Gb memory card video at full quality (640x480 30fps) can be recorded for just 8 minutes - although granted it is a camera not video camera.

Sound recordings can be attached to each photo using the inbuilt microphone. The 2' LCD is great. An excellent camera, that is perfect if looking for a very small camera that looks great and has good image quality. An extra battery, memory card and case are definitely worth considering.

This is the first digital camera I've had. Before i bought it i spent a number of weeks looking around at different models and reading reviews. I decided to buy the Ixus 50 because it is such a small and compact camera.

It looks great and really does fit in your pocket. It takes SD cards which are pretty much the cheapest memory cards on the market. It links up to the computer well and downloads the images super fats and very easy, it can be handled all from the camera. As with some other reviewers i have had battery problems. It seems very delicate. Quite often the 'change battery pack' sign comes up for no reason and switches the camera off even when there is plenty more power on the battery. On the internet similar replacement batteries can be bought for around £15, so it's always worthwhile to have a spare.

The quality is excellent and shot to shot time is superb. It's a fun camera, you can set your own sounds on it and the videos are of good quality. The 'my colours' function is very good, the ability to have only one colour showing and everything else in black and white makes some amazing pictures. Videos can also be shot in this mode. Only the battery lets the camera down, apart from that this is good fun and great looking. Easily the best camera for its size. This is a really good camera.

Took ages to decide between this and a few others but very glad i choose this one. The large screen is brilliant and really clear which was a big selling point with me. It looks really nice and is so simple to understand. I love the digital macro feature which lets you take up close clear pictures.

Also the my colours feature is good fun to play around with. The pictures are great quality. The price on amazon compared to in the shops is an amazing difference, definetley worth buying from here. The battery doesn't last as long as i would like it to though. The first time i used it continuesly it lasted around 2 hours, and didnt give much of a warning before it ran out. So i have ordered a second. The only other bad point in my opinion is the view finder as it is very small and difficult to see through if you don't want the LCD screen on.

Despite this i still love it and wouldnt change it to any other camera.
